The Challenges

Challenge 1

Secure and efficient IoT integration in 5G campus networks

Develop a solution that exploits the full potential of edge computing and IoT in 5G campus networks to optimize industrial processes in real time.
At the same time, the solution should ensure that all data remains completely local and protected from cyberattacks without compromising network performance.
This challenge combines the aspects of data security with the increase in efficiency through IoT and edge computing.

Challenge 2

AI-supported, cloud-based emergency call and crisis management platform

Develop a cloud-based platform for control centers that automatically analyzes and prioritizes emergency calls and incoming multimedia content using AI.
The platform must remain highly available even in crisis situations where physical control centers fail, while ensuring data security and real-time communication to enable emergency services to provide faster and more accurate assistance.
This challenge combines the advantages of artificial intelligence and cloud technologies for more efficient emergency call handling and crisis management.

Challenge 3

Real-time communication and mobile broadband network for disaster relief operations

Develop a solution that enables emergency services to share data such as video transmissions and drone data in real time in crisis situations, while at the same time ensuring security against eavesdropping and data protection.
Create a mobile, rapidly deployable broadband network based on LTE/5G that can be set up within minutes in large-scale emergencies to support the communication of the emergency services on site.
This challenge combines the requirements for secure real-time data transmission and flexible broadband infrastructures for crisis situations.

Challenge 4

Cybersecurity and emergency communication platform for critical infrastructures

Develop an intelligent emergency communication platform that ensures secure internal and external communication in critical infrastructures even if conventional networks fail.
At the same time, the system should detect anomalies in the communication networks at an early stage and warn of cyber attacks in order to prevent potential threats before they affect the infrastructure.
This challenge combines the aspects of cyber security and robust emergency communication in a system that is specially tailored to the requirements of critical infrastructures.

Challenge 5

Secure and scalable IoT networks for critical infrastructures

Develop a solution that securely and efficiently integrates thousands of IoT devices into a large-scale critical infrastructure network and ensures their real-time connectivity.
At the same time, the solution should protect autonomous IoT systems, such as driverless transportation systems or industrial robots, from external attacks and guarantee their reliability under all conditions.
This combined challenge calls for a comprehensive solution that addresses both the scalability and the security and reliability of IoT systems in critical infrastructures.

Smart Service 5.0 -6th HACKATHONAMRING® 2024

Over 100 international participants from renowned universities and various companies registered for the sixth 48-hour innovation marathon at the Nürburgring. With the support of four first-class coaches and the use of state-of-the-art technologies such as drones, smart glasses, AI and VR, innovative solutions were developed for this year’s theme “Smart Service 5.0”. The FUTURE FORUM was also held for the first time, where current trends, challenges and the future of EmergencyEye® technology were discussed in depth. An inspiring weekend full of innovation and collaboration!

In the links below you can find the official video of the HACKATHONAMRING®2024 as well as a summary of the ideas and results of the individual teams.

AI-Supported Crisis Communication: Better Response and Support - HACKATHON@PmRExpo 2023

From November 28 to 30, 2023, 36 hackers, supported by 130 COMMUNITY members, met to develop innovative solutions for AI-supported effective crisis management. Amazing prototypes and solutions were developed within 48 hours. An independent jury consisting of 36 PMRExpo visitors evaluated the innovations and selected the winner.

Results and descriptions are linked below.

Thanks to the sponsor Koelnmesse GmbH and to the companies sureVIVE SA, F24 AG, VIVASECUR GmbH and NoraTec GmbH for their contribution and support.

Shaping the future -5th HACKATHONAMRING® 2023

The HACKATHONAMRING® 2023, which took place at the famous Nürburgring in Germany from June 23 to 25, proved to be an exciting and unforgettable event.

The hackathon, which attracted around 100 participants from a variety of backgrounds, was a remarkable display of innovation, collaboration and technological prowess.
Over the course of an intense 48 hours, participants took on three different challenges that pushed the boundaries of creativity and problem solving.

Prototypes presented:

  • Smart Service Assistant, the app for virtually guided inspections.
  • GreenBot, the most user-friendly interface for sustainability databases, which improves the perception for sustainable decisions.
  • “Vocal Eye” is an AI-based add-on for emergency services and dispatchers that helps them make quick, critical decisions by analyzing and enriching data from a call.
  • Steel Team Six presented its software, which provides an overview, classification and up-to-date status information on operational, crisis and danger areas to ensure the fastest and best possible assistance.
  • The Lunchables made the invisible visible.

DRONES AND AI -4th HACKATHONAMRING® 2021

Sprint at the SPELL@hackathonamring.
We have taken on the challenge of capturing live mobile image data to better assess situations and have made tremendous progress.

Goals achieved:

  • Drone live video transmissions on EmEye-T® and the drawing of images as a prototype.
  • Sharing meetings with experts as a prototype.

ACCESSIBLE EMERGENCY SERVICE -3rd HACKATHONAMRING® 2019.

The 3rd HACKATHONAMRING® was the first event in which deaf people took part.
The aim was to develop an emergency call technology that enables deaf people to call the emergency services via 112.

Goals achieved:

  • Chat function with instant translation for emergency calls developed as a prototype.
  • Chat with translation for the “multilingual” emergency call service developed as a prototype.

SAVE LIVES WITH YOUR HACK - HACKATHONAMRING® ONE AND TWO 2018

More than 200 international hackers from India, the Philippines, Spain, Romania, Benelux, Poland, England, Germany, Costa Rica and Houston (Texas) took part in the first two HACKATHONAMRING® events.

In a 48-hour and a 24-hour programming marathon in February and March 2018, the programmers worked, sometimes without sleep, on solutions for the care of people in acute cardiac arrest.

In this short time, the teams not only developed new codes, but also the first functioning prototype of EmergencyEye®.

These first two events were supported by EIT Health, an initiative of the EU Commission.

The atmosphere at the HACKATHONAMRING was great, also how the hackers helped each other. I had many conversations and heard about ideas I would never have thought of.
